David creates bespoke musical experiences that are profoundly tied to specific places, because authentic connections with music are life-changing.

About

David Klock is a composer of instrumental concert music as well as collaborative pieces for multimedia projects. His works have been featured on Navona Records’ Moto Finale; "Playas de Tijuana Mural Project", a documentary by Lizbeth de la Cruz Santana; Sounds New’s May 2022 national tour; International Musicians Academy 2022 in Vidin, Bulgaria; Humanizing Deportation, a community-based digital storytelling project; The Neighborhood Arts Collective, a multidisciplinary arts organization; and published by T.U.X. People’s Music. "Water in Motion" (for violin, cello, and piano) was recently premiered at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall by the supremely talented Trio Casals, and proved one of the most humbling experiences of David’s life.

A classical guitarist by training, David is fascinated by the intersection of folk and classical traditions. He has a ravenous appetite for the blues, a background in the European canon, and a curiosity that leads him from bluegrass to psychedelic cumbia. His work draws inspiration from such varied sources as Harry Partch, Gustavo Santaolalla, Rhiannon Giddens, Béla Bartók, Bryce Dessner, and Otis Taylor.

David is the co-founder of, and served as Executive Director of, The Neighborhood Arts Collective, a 501(c)3 organization that creates art inspired by the lives of individual people. The organization exists to create opportunities for community members to empathize with one another. David conceived of this project as an artistic response to the division and separation so prevalent in today’s world.

David has been fortunate enough to work and live in a myriad of places including Washington, DC, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Seattle, Washington, Medellin, Colombia, and now Denver, Colorado. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Master of Music in Theory and Composition at Stephen F. Austin State University. His major teachers have been Jonathan Leathwood, Dr. Kenji Kuriyama, and Dr. Stephen Lias.
